Free kids events and workshops are a huge drawcard for families on an Outback holiday.

A full program of kids events and workshops will be released in early 2019.  Activities may include:

Art, Photography, Singing, Songwriting, Craft and much more.

Little Swaggies event

This event involves a series of fun events linked to the story of Waltzing Matilda.  Events include the Swaggie’s hat toss, the Tucker Bag relay, the Billy Can dash, and Dodge the Jolly Jumbucks.

Under 8’s Teddy Bear Picnic

Children are asked to bring their favourite teddy to join in a range of activities to include Sand Art, games, music and face-painting.  They’ll also get a visit from Sid the Pelican and other favourite characters.

  • Age groups: Under 8 yrs (children to be accompanied by an adult)
  • Cost: FREE Event

Children’s Wobble Board Painting competition

Children are to bring their own brushes and containers to paint their favourite painting on the Wobble Board.  A Wobble Board is a piece of fibreboard used as a musical instrument, so maybe you can play some music later!  Wobble Boards and paints supplied.

  • Age groups: Under 5’s; 5-8 years; 9-12 years

Bushman’s Egg Throwing event

Test your skills in handling this very fragile item!  Work in pairs with a thrower and catcher.  The aim of the game is to try to throw and catch eggs without breaking the shell.

Children’s Wool Bale rolling competition

Children will need to pair with a mate (or we will find you a mate) for the opportunity to roll a bale of wool down the main street of Winton!

  • Age groups: Primary & Secondary school age children

  • Nominations: taken at the Outback Festival Office on arrival

Swag Tossing event

Take the challenge and toss Matilda’s Swag into the ring. Swag will be supplied.

FREE Whip Cracking Workshops

Children will be coached by an Australian whip-cracking champion in the skills of whip-cracking.  Learn how to crack the whip!

  • Age groups: Primary & Secondary school age children
  • Cost: FREE Event
  • Nominations: taken at the Outback Festival Office on arrival

Meggsie Cart Races 

You will need one pusher and one passenger to test your skills in racing your meggsie cart on a set course for your chance to win a Festival medallion.  Meggsie Carts are supplied.

  • When:  Friday 27 September
  • Age groups: 8-10 years and 11-13 years  (limited to 25 teams of two)
  • Cost:  TBA per team
  • Nominations: taken at the Outback Festival Office

There will be plenty of action and entertainment for the Kids! Make plans for a family Outback holiday in September 2019!
